Founder & CEO of Bright Pink, Lindsay Avner to Speak At BrandSmart 2016

bnr-bright-pink-logo-459x293Bright Pink is the only national non-profit focused on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. Bright Pink is on a mission to save women’s lives from breast and ovarian cancer by empowering them to live proactively at a young age.

BIO: Lindsay made history in 2006 when she became the youngest woman in the country to have a riskreducing double mastectomy—a choice based both on science and strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer. After being diagnosed with a BRCA1 gene mutation at 22, she took action and vowed not to let these diseases strike her as they had three generations of women before her.  Through her experience, Lindsay found a profound lack of resources for women in her position—young women who had not been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer but wanted to start living proactively. She asked, “Why do we have to wait until someone is diagnosed to take action?” And so, in 2007, Bright Pink was born.

Nine years later, Bright Pink is a national non-profit empowering young women everywhere to take action and be proactive with their breast and ovarian health. At Bright Pink, Lindsay oversees a $3.5 million+ budget, 16 full-time staff members, and an innovative portfolio of education and support programs that serve thousands of women nationwide. These programs include the Brighten Up® Educational Workshop – an in-person presentation on the breast and ovarian health basics – and the Women’s Health Provider Education Initiative – a case-based education module to train physicians and nurse practitioners on risk stratification and management strategies for their young female patients.

Prior to starting Bright Pink, Lindsay spent three years in brand management at Unilever working on national personal care brands Degree, Axe and Suave. Today, she uses the marketing skills she honed during her time at Unilever to establish cause-marketing partnerships with world-class brands that help further the organization’s mission and amplify its life-saving impact. Bright Pink’s growing list of national corporate partners include eBay, American Eagle Outfitters, David’s Bridal, Paul Mitchell, and the WNBA.

Among her growing list of honors, Lindsay was named among SheKnows’ “100 Inspiring Women” (2015), Crain’s Chicago Business’ “40 under 40” (2014), “A Woman to Watch” by the Chicago Sun Times (2008), an “Action Hero” by Women’s Health magazine (2008), a “Woman Doing Good” by Self Magazine (2011), a “Promise” leader by the YWCA (2011), a “Woman of Influence” by Today’s Chicago Woman magazine (2013), and she is the youngest recipient of the Anti-Defamation League’s “Rising Star” award (2009). Lindsay has become a thought leader and called upon national spokesperson in her field.
