What is AMA Chicago?

AMA Chicago is a chapter of the American Marketing Association and a non-profit corporation governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Board members contribute their expertise in specific knowledge areas to bring the chapter mission to life.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for Chicago marketers to expand their knowledge, improve their skills and grow in their careers through access to leaders and peers in the field and skill-building content.

Your impact

Board member requirements

  • Possess a passion for the mission of AMA Chicago and serve as a chapter ambassador for the Chicago marketing community
  • Be fiscally responsible for AMA Chicago, including actively planning and approving its budget
  • Be seasoned experts in their respective discipline, with leadership experience and the ability to manage teams through influence and collaboration
  • Serve as CEO of their position by bringing new ideas to the chapter, evaluating their feasibility and engaging in their successful launch
  • Assist in recruiting future board members and volunteers who possess the skills, commitment and energy to make significant contributions to advance the mission of AMA Chicago
  • Have schedule flexibility to attend morning and/or evening events sponsored by the chapter as appropriate
  • Attend monthly board meetings and other leadership sessions as determined by the chapter operations calendar
  • Contribute 10 or more hours per month
  • Serve a two-year term beginning at the start of the fiscal year in July

Open Board Positions

President-Elect

The President-Elect’s main function is to shadow the President and assist him/her while preparing for the upcoming year. Under guidance from the President, the President-Elect will become familiar with the processes and procedures required to run the chapter. The ideal candidate is someone with 2 years board experience and strong leadership skills. View the complete description.

VP, Community Programming

The Vice President of Community Programming is responsible for the “monthly” programming and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and CareerSmart and MarketingTech Smart events. View the complete description.

VP, Communications

The Vice President of Communications is responsible for all marketing communications functions for the AMA Chicago chapter. The position reports directly to the President of the Board and manages all director level positions on the committee. The ideal candidate is someone who is a strategist at heart with deep experience managing a communications team of volunteers and has worked with a subscription-based product. VP, Membership

The Vice President of Membership Relations is responsible for creating a plan to drive member retention and acquisition. This role reports directly to the President of the Board. This person leads a team of directors and other volunteers. The ideal candidate has the ability to work cross-functionally, the foresight to plan ahead of time and a mindset that requires a combination of creating strategy and executing on initiatives. Director, Communications
NEW POSITION

The Communications Director works closely with the VP, Communications and the Communications team to ensure completion and execution of communication tactics. This position is responsible for maintaining coordination among Communications team members to insure all campaign/promotion messaging is in harmony. Director, Sponsorship

The Director, Sponsorship is responsible for procuring both cash and in-kind sponsorships for the Chapter as well as performing all the duties specified by the Constitution and Bylaws or those approved by the Board of Directors. Director, BrandSmart
NEW POSITION

The Director of BrandSmart is a high-profile role responsible for leading the successful execution of the AMA Chicago’s premiere annual conference, BrandSmart. The position reports directly to the VP Executive Programming and recruits and manages a committee to plan the conference. The ideal candidate is someone who is a senior marketing leader with conference management experience and has a large industry network that he or s/he can tap into for speakers and committee volunteers. Director, Analytics

The Director of Analytics is responsible for analyzing and mining existing member data and supporting the strategy to understand the organization’s membership through data. This role reports directly to the VP, Marketing Insight. The ideal candidate has the strategic and tactical skillset needed to gather information from existing sources and research, understand data deeply, extract the most relevant insights, and use insights to advise chapter leaders on how to stay relevant and provide value to membership. Director, Member Acquisition

The Director of Membership Acquisition is responsible for developing and implementing a plan to drive member acquisition. This role reports directly to the VP, Membership and oversees several volunteers. The ideal candidate has the ability to lead a team to think strategically about ways to drive memberships within the Chicagoland community, as well as coordinate activities to drive membership results. Director, Volunteer Engagement

The Director, Volunteer Engagement (formerly called Director, Volunteer Management) is responsible for developing and implementing a plan to drive volunteer recruitment and engagement. This role reports directly to the VP of Membership Relations and oversees several volunteers. The ideal candidate has the ability to lead a team to develop and implement a process to match candidate qualifications with organization needs.
