Unintentional Insertion of Bias in Resumes

Research indicates we insert unconscious bias in resumes; that recruiters’ eyes are biased reading résumés in an F-shape making a yes/no decision in 6.25 seconds; and that 75% of résumés don’t even get through an ATS to a recruiter’s desk. Let’s review scholarly research on implicit bias and learn to avoid accidental insertion of it in resumes. We will review name, religion, gender, age, socioeconomic, appearance, parenthood, unemployment, and word choice and see how bias manifests in résumé writing/review to the detriment (or benefit) of candidates.
